Mohali district (three tehsils of Mohali, Dera Bassi, Kharar) was first part of Ropar (new name Rupnagar) and Patiala district, which was later recognized by the Punjab government as the 18th district. The foundation stone of Mohali was laid by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Punjab Giani Zail Singh and was renamed Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar after Shahibzada Ajit Singh, the eldest son of the tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh. The name of Mohali district was once again changed to Ajitgarh. The name has been changed so many times to create confusion among the people about the name of the district. But the locals and in most parts of India the district is known by the old name 'Mohali' and this name is very popular.

The five important blocks of the district are Mohali, Kharar, Dera Bassi, Kurali, Zirakpur. Kharar is the largest of them, is made up of about 150 villages. Both Mohali and Chandigarh are located in the same way and there is not much difference in their structure. Only the border of Punjab State separates the two. Mohali was developed under the sector system called Face. Some sectors are shared by Mohali and Chandigarh. But in fact they are part of Mohali district and fall in the area of ​​Mohali district. Mohali, Chandigarh, Panchkula; The trio of these three cities is known as Chandigarh tricity. The city of Panchkula falls in the state of Haryana and is developed in a planned manner.

In Mohali city, where there are historical and religious places, there are also many interesting places that attract tourists. Among them is an international level cricket stadium formerly known as PCA Stadium. However, it was renamed as I.S. Bindra Cricket Stadium. It is world famous as Mohali Cricket Stadium. The highlight of the stadium is its lighting towers, which are shorter than the rest of the stadiums of the India because of its proximity to the airport. Apart from this the most magnificent place of district Mohali is VR Punjab Mall of Kharar tehsil and Thunder Zone Amusement Park on Mohali-Sirhind road which attracts the people of Majha, Malwa and Doaba.

Village Chapparchiri is a historical site where Baba Banda Singh Bahadur fought a battle with the Mughal tyrant Wazir Khan of Sirhind to avenge the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas and laid the foundation of the Sikh rule in India. In 2011, a 100 meter high Fateh Burj tower dedicated to the historic victory was constructed at this place to commemorate the Battle of Chapparchiri. It was completed in record time. There is a beautiful park and a small pond around the tower. Statues of Banda Bahadur Ji and his 5 generals have been placed in the park. This place is also known as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur War Memorial in Punjab.

There are many religious places in Mohali district such as Gurdwara Amb Sahib whose history is related to the sixth Guru Har Rai Ji. Gurdwara Sahib is planted with mango trees which bear fruit in all seasons. Gurdwara Sant Mandal Angitha Sahib is located at a distance of about 500 meters from Gurdwara Amb Sahib. Gurdwara Nabha Sahib is located in the village of Nabha, Zirakpur tehsil, whose history is related to the ninth Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. This Gurdwara is located in village Suhna, very close to Mohali city. Apart from this, a Sikh Museum was inaugurated at village Balongi in the district.
